A few years ago, I traveled to Los Angeles for a meeting. I checked into a nice hotel in the night. Everything went smoothly until I opened the door of the room I’d been assigned. A man came to the door in his pajamas with a toothbrush in his mouth. Fortunately, he was a friend of mine, in town for the same meeting. We were both surprised to see each other.
I returned to the hotel desk and told them the room was already occupied. They apologized and upgraded me. They were embarrassed enough to give us a both a complimentary stay. It was an extraordinary experience that could have been a lot worse if the gentleman and I didn’t know one another.
